Eating your Pumpkins (And Other Edible Decorations)

I was inspired by a post here on eating your whole pumpkin when you are done with it. Of course I always have made the obligatory roasted pumpkin seeds when carving our jack-o-lanterns, but that was it. I don't know how many of you frugalistas already do this one, but using the whole thing is a new idea for me this year.

Now, living in a warmer part of the country, and leaving our jack-o-lanterns out for several days means that they are not in an edible condition when we are done. So I will be honest, we still will not be using our jack-o-lanterns for anything other than seeds. However, I did glean some useful ideas from this post. We are having a party on Halloween where we are using pie pumpkins as the decorations and for a game. When the party is over I will cut, roast, puree, and freeze the pumpkin so that we can enjoy it year round.

You can find directions for roasting and pureeing your pumpkins here along with recipes to put the pumpkin in here.

Pie pumpkins make great edible table decorations for your Thanksgiving table as well. And you don't have to stop with pumpkin, plenty of other fruits and veggies are beautiful for decoration and then can be pureed and frozen to be used in recipes. Think apples, pears, butternut squash, acorn squash, ect. Do you have any edible decorating ideas?
