Kroger Shopping Trip:4/22

We went to Kroger yesterday. There were not many great deals, but I had put off shopping as long as I could and we really needed alot of dairy and produce after I had been gone for 4 days!

The best sale was the black berries which were 4/$5. I am going to make some blackberries freezer jam. Its not the lowest price I have seen on berries, but I was still happy!

I had free item coupons for the cream cheese, sunchips, and cheese.

I used a BOGO for the Lays

I had $1 coupons for each of the yogurts from the 3/28 SS

I had a .50 off Driscolls coupon the doubled (this was leftover from a while back)

And I had a $1 coupon for a scotch bright sponge which made it free (the earth friendly ones are 10/10 right now)!

Total Spent: $67.54

Total Saved: $28.02

Hi! I really like reading your blog and love that you post your shopping trips and freezer cooking ideas! I saw that you purchased a lot of milk and was wondering if you were going to freeze any of that? I didn't know how that worked, but you have inspired me to try freezer cooking! Thank you :) Nikki M.

I am not going to freeze any of this, we are actually just a milk drinking family! I buy my milk in the cartons because the dates are longer (the dates on the ones I bought are until June 1 although this amount will only last us about 2 weeks or ). Buying milk in 1/2 gallon cartons is slightly more but doing it this way allows me to stock up and we don't have any waste. I found with the full gallons some time we would not make it though a full gallon in the week or so that it would be good once opened!

You can freeze milk though, lots of people do, and it is very frugal if you find milk that is marked down for quick sale! You need to open it up and pour some out because it will expand when it freezes. Then when you thaw it you will need to shake it because it separates. I have heard previously frozen milk works very well for baking applications!

I am glad you are going to try freezer cooking, I really love it!

We freeze milk all the time - when I find the organic milk on manager's special at Kroger or it's a good deal at Wal-Mart. I've never had to pour out any milk or shake it once it's thawed, and we drink the Vitamin D milk - my mom used to freeze 12 gallons at a time for our big family, and occasionally one of the jugs would have a frozen dribble out the top, but most of them don't have any problems, amazingly!
